诗歌背景资料：
查理斯.卫斯理不少诗歌都以爱为主题。这首诗见于1749年《圣诗本》，属《愿付出爱》组曲第五首，原有七节歌词。歌曲又名《神圣的爱，何其甘甜》，是查理斯.卫斯理受了摩尔维亚弟兄们的影响后，写出的“爱”的诗歌。因为摩尔维亚的弟兄们很着重“爱”，其中的新生道夫六岁的时候，每天都写一封情诗给主耶稣，写完之后，就把那首诗纸揉成一团，从窗户抛出去，然后祷告说：“主啊，求你藉着天使接住这个情诗送给主耶稣。”摩尔维亚的特点就是爱，查理斯很受他们影响。
